| The Global Business Opportunities Convention
2002 (G-BOC2002), was successfully held with the participation of 400 government
and business leaders from 31 overseas countries/region, as well as of approximately
6,000 representatives from about 2,200 companies based in Japan. I wish
to sincerely thank all the participants and supporters from both overseas
and Japan for their cooperation and contribution to the success of this
final event. Despite the severe economic conditions prevailing with only dim prospects, the highly evaluated 'Individual Business Talks' proved successful again with 1,401 cases of business talks, 261 of which resulted in either realization of business or expectation for contracts to be made, quite fruitfully for both participants as exhibitors and visitors. In addition to the conventional one- to- one meetings for business talks, 'Virtual Business Talks' program was launched in September 2002 on the Internet where 62 companies and organizations from overseas and Japan participated as exhibitors at the virtual 3-D exhibition halls with clear visual images. Keeping abreast with the progress of Information Technology, the introduction of this Virtual Business Talks was heartily welcomed as a vehicle for companies to spread information on the Internet worldwide on their lines of business, products and services as well as to conveniently conduct business talks or exchange information with overseas and Japanese counterparts. Since 1983, we have successively organized and conducted 17 events of G-BOC focusing on the incomparably unique and highly practical Individual Business Talks with pre- arranged meetings, with significant contributions to creation of business opportunities, picking out business partners and promoting international business. With thoroughly organized business- matching as the highest priority, G-BOC has been taking the lead in the age of business for small and medium enterprises. Over the last two decades, however, the world economy and business environment worldwide have undergone dramatic changes even accelerating such pace with the arrival of the 21st century, thus prompting us to keep well up with the times in coping firmly and timely with business needs of the new era. With the G-BOC2002, we have put a period to the annually held Global Business Opportunities Convention, to devote our efforts to promotion of on- line international business through programs fully utilizing the Internet such as the Virtual Business Talks. Concurrently, on occasions when needs arise, we will conduct programs of conventional (not on- line) Individual Business Talks restricting to particular lines of business or specified regions which cannot be achieved conclusively, only by exchanges of information and business talks on the Internet. I take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks once again for all the support by all concerned that enabled us to keep conducting the G-BOC even under adverse circumstances, and I eagerly hope to be favored with a continuance of the same support to our new programs for further promotion of international business. |
